Maynard says EPA Trying to Destroy WV Coal Miners

Williamson, WV (HNN) – Republican candidate for Congress Elliott "Spike" Maynard issued the following statement Friday, March 26 in regard to the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed veto of Arch Coal's Spruce No. 1 Mine in Logan County:
 
"The Obama, Pelosi, Rahall war on coal miners hit its peak today with the proposed veto of the Spruce No.1 Mine in Logan County," said Maynard. "This tree hugging trio is working to destroy the entire economy of southern West Virginia through the EPA."
 
"Hundreds of WV workers will lose their jobs as a result of this cruel decision. I am deeply disappointed Obama, Pelosi, and Rahall refuse to let our people work," said Maynard. "This action will devastate WV coal mining families."
 
"Congressman Rahall said recently that the EPA was just doing its job," continued Maynard. "The EPA obviously thinks it's their job to take our jobs."
 
Maynard continued, "WV coal miners deserve a fair, common-sense permitting process. The EPA has changed the rules mid-stream on our miners, and I don't see how anyone could think that is fair. Lisa Jackson at the EPA refuses to respect the authority and judgment of the US Army Corps of Engineers. But let's be clear about one thing: Rahall, Pelosi, Obama and Jackson are all part of the same team making these rules that cost WV coal miners their jobs."
 
Spike Maynard is seeking the Republican nomination for the 3rd Congressional District of West Virginia. Maynard is a former West Virginia State Supreme Court Justice and trial judge from Mingo County.
