Special to Huntingtonnews.net

Recruiting Station Charleston has moved to a new facility in Ona after spending the last 10 years in Teays Valley. The Marines officially moved in at the end of February. The building is located near the Huntington Mall exit off Interstate 64, going East on Route 60.

The landlord, Tim Meeks, had the new facility built to meet the needs of the Marine Corps. The staff of 16 supports more than 90 recruiters located throughout a 48,000 square mile area of responsibility that reaches into West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio.

The new facility includes a training room that accommodates the support staff and recruiters from the station’s area of responsibility.

The 8,500 square-foot building cost $1 million and the Corps is leasing it for 10 years. The economic impact on the surrounding area is estimated at more than $1 million annually.

Prior to its Teays Valley location, the station was in Charleston from 1984 to 1999.
