2010 Charleston Volleyball Club (CVC) Spikefest Tournament

The Charleston Volleyball Club will host the 7th Annual Spikefest Volleyball Tournament, March 26 – 28, 2010, at the Big Sandy Super Store Arena in Huntington, WV. The Spikefest Volleyball Tournament is designed as a fun, competitive weekend inviting regional Junior Olympic club volleyball players to participate in a full weekend of volleyball competition. Over 1000 girls will compete, ages 14 to 18, on 96 teams in the three-day event. Participants from OH, WV PA, KY and TN will visit the Tri-State Area during the competition along with college coaches evaluating talent for recruiting purposes. The 2010 CVC Spikefest Volleyball Tournament is a sanctioned USA Volleyball (USAV) event.
 
Sponsors of the 2010 event are RAZE (a program of the WV DHHR), and Test, Inc. Additional supporters for the 2010 Spikefest Volleyball Tournament are the Huntington Convention and Visitors Bureau, Cabell County Commission and the Big Sandy Super Store Arena.
 
The goal of the Charleston Volleyball Club’s Junior Olympic program is to enhance the skill level of its members by providing opportunities for quality instruction/training and the experience of high-level competition by participating in USAV, AAU, and other off-season activities.
 
The Charleston Volleyball Club (CVC) was formed in the late 1970’s by a group of male volleyball enthusiasts with varying playing background from former college players to local athletes who played in YMCA and city recreational leagues. They registered with the USA Volleyball (known then as United States Volleyball Association) to become the first and only team in West Virginia. Membership grew as new players from the Morgantown and Pittsburgh areas moved to Charleston. In 1988, the Club formed West Virginia’s first USAV Junior Olympic teams comprised of a 16 & under and 18 & under squad. Although, neither squad won any tournaments, they always managed to qualify for the playoff rounds. In 2002, the Charleston Volleyball Club rededicated itself to youth volleyball and to share its knowledge and experience of volleyball with state youth. Since that time, over 150 girls annually have taken part in the CVC Junior Olympic program with many going on to successful college careers.
