Marshall Men’s Golf Finishes Day One of Pinehurst Intercollegiate
Thundering Herd led by Carson Schambach

Pinehurst, NC -- Marshall University’s Carson Schambach (So., Glen Dale, W.Va., John Marshall H.S.) led the Thundering Herd men’s golf team in the opening round of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Friday afternoon, March 12, 2010 at Pinehurst #8 Centennial Golf Course. Schambach finished even for the day to tie for ninth place.
Schambach heads into the second round four strokes behind tournament leader Kevin Foley of Penn State University, who concluded day one at four-under-par.
The Thundering Herd sits tied for 10th with Northern Illinois and Ball State at 301 after Friday.
Bosten Miller (So., Charleston, W.Va., Capital H.S.) shot an opening round of 75, tying his single round average for the season.
Aaron Boggs (RS-Fr., Madison, W.Va., Scott H.S.) and Bennett Boyer (So., Millersburg, Pa., Millersburg Area H.S.) each posted a 77 in the first round of the tournament.
Nathan Kerns (Fr., Ironton., Ohio, Ironton H.S.) shot an 80 on the day to round out the Herd’s roster.
Penn State shot a 288 and enjoys a one-stroke lead over Eastern Kentucky after one round of play to stand atop the leader board.
Marshall’s Dustin Cutlip (RS Jr., Marlinton, W.Va., Pocahontas County H.S.) competed in the tournament as a individual and posted a 75, beating his single-round season-low of 76.
Tournament action continues with round two teeing off at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
