Huntington, WV (HNN) – The Marshall University Baseball team recently announced the addition of right-handed pitcher Austin Coan, who signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Thundering Herd during the 2009 season.
A Grapevine, Texas native, Coan played baseball at the University of Texas at Arlington before transferring to Grayson County Junior College where he helped guide his team to the 2008 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship.
“Anytime you can bring in a guy who has experience winning, you’re only going to help your team improve,” head coach Jeff Waggoner said of Coan. “He is really going to help solidify our bullpen.”
Coan was tied for first in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) with eight saves in 16 appearances. He dealt 10 strikeouts in 16.1 innings of work, holding opponents to just a .224 overall batting average and allowed just 13 hits.
Coan will join Grayson teammate RL Eisenbach on the Marshall pitching staff in 2009.
