Charleston, WV (HNN) –– Bosten Miller of Charleston leads the West Virginia team into battle against Virginia this weekend in the Annual Virginia – West Virginia Matches at Fincastle Country Club (6,643 yards, par 35-35—70) in Bluefield on Saturday-Sunday, July 12-13, 2008.

Miller is joined by 2008 Junior Match Play Champion and reigning High School medalist, Aaron “Boonie” Barna of Hurricane; Jay Woodward and Ryan Mason of Bridgeport; Marshall Hone of Wheeling, Carson Schambach of Glen Dale, Patton Couch of Logan and Clark Priddy of Nitro.

The championship format consists of one day of two-player four-ball competition (Saturday, July 12) and another round of singles matches (Sunday, July 13). In the four-ball competition, each player plays his ball into the hole, but only the best score is counted toward the team’s aggregate.

The eight-golfer Virginia squad won seven of eight final day singles matches and halved another to post a 30½-5½ victory and claim last year’s matches at Fincastle Country Club.

Possessors of a 10-point lead (11-1) following Saturday’s first round four-ball matches, Virginia’s juniors recorded three shutouts and outscored their West Virginia counterparts, 19½-4 in Sunday’s final day singles action. Virginia’s players went unbeaten in the 12 matches over the weekend, comprised of four-ball matches and concluding singles play.

Since the event started in 1990, Virginia owns a 14-4-0 advantage and has claimed 11 of the past 14 matches dating back to 1994. Virginia’s juniors have also won the past five matches and eight of the past nine.

Fincastle Country Club will be welcoming the matches for an 11th straight year and for the 13th time in the matches’ history.
