Washington, DC (HNN) – Senator Jay Rockefeller, D-WV, who is seeking his fifth term in the U.S.Senate, on Tuesday evening, May 13, 2008 released the following statement after primary election results revealed he has secured the Democratic nomination:
“I’d like to extend my profound gratitude to the people of West Virginia fo rnominating me as their Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate.
“For over 40 years, it has been my honor to fight for West Virginia families. I wakeup every day with pride in what we’ve accomplished together, but also renewed in my passion to create a stronger future for our state.
“We’ve certainly got a lot of work ahead of us. Families are struggling to make ends meet, and they need our help. Gas prices are through the roof, and people need some relief right now. Our nation’s energy needs are urgent, but they also require long-term solutions for the future. Thousands of West Virginia children and families don't have access to health care, and they have to be made a priority. Our veterans are returning home with critical needs that aren't being met, but they must be.
“These are incredibly serious challenges -- challenges that require not only serious leadership, but proven leadership. And I stand ready to continue working to meet these challenges, and to continue fighting for the people of West Virginia, who motivate and inspire me each and every day.”
