Huntington, WV (HNN) – Stridently pushing forward, Hillary Clinton joined her daughter, Chelsea, yesterday in Shepherdstown, W.Va., where she kept her presidential campaign solidly in play. As national media and party leaders have leaned on her to call it a campaign, Clinton continues forward having made stops in South Dakota, Oregon, and later Friday, in Kentucky.
Former President Clinton continues his trek across the smaller towns of the Mountain State with stops in Madison and Williamson on Friday, May 9.
At 3 p.m. he will visit Wayne High School for a “Solutions for America” event. No tickets are required. Everyone is welcome.
Members of the public are encouraged to RSVP at: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/actioncenter/event/view/?id=14251
President Clinton’s schedule for May 9, begins with an event at the Madison, WV firehouse at 10 a.m., after which he travels to the Williamson Fire Department at 12:15 p.m. Following the Wayne event, he will speak in the gymnasium of McKinley Middle School, St. Albans at approximately 5:30 p.m. and at Ripley’s Fire Station 30 at 7:30 p.m.
Despite a litany of pleas for her to quit the race, the Charleston Daily Mail on Thursday, May 8, endorsed her for President.
The published endorsement stated that the editors were “philosophically at odds with both contenders for the Democratic nomination,” then endorsed Clinton as “by far the most experienced” and “the one who has had to learn the most about West Virginia.”
Praising her tenacity to “keep going as she has during this primary campaign,” the Daily Mail wrote: “This trait produced a broad, deep background in policy. She has been an activist for children, migrant laborers, civil rights, higher standards in education, the Children’s Health Insurance Program and more.”
The endorsement concludes that having won the New York U.S. Senate seat in 2000 and by a larger margin in 2006, “No one questions her readiness for Washington anymore.”
Clinton has also won the endorsement of Sally Richardson, former Chair of the W.Va. Democratic Executive Committee. “Sen. Clinton is the only candidate in the race with a plan to ensure that every American has quality affordable health care. She understands the challenges facing working families and is the candidate who is ready to find real solutions starting day one in the White House, “ Richardson said.
Three other former chairs of the West Virginia State Democratic Executive Committee (some of them super-delegates) have announced their support for Clinton. They are Pat Maroney, Steve White, and Chuck Smith.
While Hillary Clinton spoke Thursday morning at the State Capitol in West Virginia, she has traveled to Sioux Falls, SD and Central Point, Oregon. Tonight, she will be delivering remarks in Louisville, Ky. She will speak at the Kentucky Democratic Party Dinner at the Kentucky International Convention Center at 8 p.m.
