Hinton, WV (HNN) – The Summers County Commission on Thursday, Dec. 28,
2006
voted 2-0 to name assistant prosecutor Amy Mann to fill out the term of
James McNeely, who earlier this month announced his intent to retire
effective Dec. 31, 2006.
McNeely was first elected in 2000 and began serving in 2001. He was
re-elected without opposition in 2004. Mann will serve until Dec. 31,
2008.
She may also seek a full four-year term as prosecutor in the 2008
election.
Commissioner Lloyd W. "Bill" Lightner recused himself from voting to
fill
the vacancy on the grounds that his family has a bail bond business.
Voting
for Amy Mann were Commission President Lonnie R. Mullins and
commissioner
Jerry Berry.
Mann is the daughter of Perry Mann, a Hinton lawyer and former Summers
County prosecuting attorney. In addition to Amy Mann, other applicants
for
the post included Jason Parmer, John Mize and Patrick Boggs.
