GVCNRCTC Slates Building Construction Fundamentals Class
By HNN Staff
Lewisburg, WV (HNN) – A class in the fundamentals of building construction
is being offered at the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and
Technical College beginning May 16 through June 1 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on
Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
The instructor for the course is David Yost, instructor of Building
Construction at Greenbrier East High School and a retired military
instructor.
Yost notes the course is for the beginner in building construction and will
be a pre-requisite for all other building constructions classes. Deadline
for registration for the special class is Thursday, May 11, 2006 and the
tuition is $50 for in state and out of state residents.
Topics to be considered in the course will be career opportunities, basic
safety practices, hand tools, power tools, ladders and scaffolds,
blueprints, and basic rigging and framing materials.
“We hope to be able to offer more ‘hands on’ classes to help the handyman as
well as the professional builder,” says Terri Baker, program specialist with
the Center for Workforce and Business Development which is sponsoring the
class. “The success of this class will determine what we can offer in the
future.”
A seasoned instructor in the military, Yost, a graduate of Greenbrier East
High School in the early 1970’s, returned to his alma mater as an instructor
last fall, replacing Steve Kirk who went into private business.
