GVCNRCTC Honors 95 Candidates for Graduation

Lewisburg, WV (HNN) – Ninety-five students who have taken all or most of
the course work on the Greenbrier Valley Campus of New River Community and
Technical College were honored Saturday evening, April 29, 2006 at the
annual Spring Awards Banquet.
The 95 students are candidates for a total of 105 degrees and certificates
Held in the Underwood Youth Center on the grounds of the State Fair of WV,
the banquet opened with the announcement by Michael Palm of Ronceverte,
NRCTC dean of Student Services, that Janet K. Shelton of Fairlea who is a
candidate for Regents Bachelor of Arts degree at Bluefield State College has
been named Salutatorian of the Class of 2006 at BSC.
Nearly all of Shelton's course work was completed at GVCNRCTC.
Other major awards presented included the Adjunct Faculty of the Year award
to David Cotrill of Lewisburg, instructor of English, and Faculty of the
Year award to Gregg Wingo of Lewisburg, visiting instructor of Business..
The Student Government most valuable player award was presented to Gershom
Perry.
Also recognized during the awards presentation were the student tutors who
must hold a 3.0 grade point average and give of their time to help their
fellow students. They are Cara Baldwin, Clintonville, Curtis Carr, Rupert,
Nathan Clay, Marie Coleman, Amanda DePriest, Williamsburg, Jenny Fogus,
Caleb Hanna, Robert Hefner, Frankford, Sandra Hinkle, Jessica Hunter, Sinks
Grove, Kenneth Janz, Scott Loving, and Beverly Pauley, Alderson.
The Student Government Association paid tribute to the faculty sponsor, Mrs.
Judy Stennett of Friars Hill, instructor of English, and Mrs. Wanda Johnson
of Lewisburg, sponsor and program coordinator in the office of Student
Services. The sponsors then honored Natasha McMann of Marlinton for her
service as SGA president.
Also honored by the SGA were special guests, President and Mrs. Ted Spring
of NRCTC. Other special guests were Mary Igo of Summersville, NRCTC
director of Continuing Education, and Mrs. Vicki Nutter of Craigsville, a
member of the NRCTC Board of Governors.
Participants in The Saga, the school publication for the Greenbrier Valley

Besides aiding veterans who are receiving degrees through their work on the
Greenbrier Valley Campus from New River Community and Technical College and
Bluefield State College, the Veterans Upward Bound at NRCTC also has
students graduating this year from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and
Mountain State University.
