New Student Housing Developed for Bluefield State College

Bluefield (BNN) — Bluefield Mayor Bob Perkinson (at podium) announced Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 that East River Mountain Inn (formerly Ramada Inn) on Cumberland Road here has been purchased by Dennis Johnson (left) and will be transformed into student housing.
Johnson, a Fayette County native, has also bought the former Holiday Inn on Fourth Avenue in Huntington which is now called Upper Classmen — a housing facility for Marshall University students.
The Bluefield project — to be known as Upper Classmen II — will undergo a $4.5 million renovation and will be open for the fall semester of 2005. Also seated at on the platform is Mark Meachum, President of the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce, and Joe Hunnicut, consultant to Bluefield State College and the driving force behind the project.
