Huntington (HNN) — Marshall University alum Michael Farrell took office Jan. 1, 2005 as Interim President of Marshall University. On Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, he sent an e-mail to MU students outlining his plans for the future. In the letter to students, he wrote, “I need you go get involved in recruiting your friends and relatives as new students. Halting future tuition and fee increases is dependent upon dramatically increasing student enrollment. Help me so I can help you.”

Noting that he was student body president and MARCO during his student days, Farrell emphasized his commitment to advance the Student Health and Wellness Center. “At present,” he wrote, “adequate funding does not exist to build a first class facility. The University will focus on the acquisition of sufficient funding to build the desired facility.”

Effective immediately, he has increased student influence by expanding the President’s Council to include Jenn Gaston, president of the student body. She will be introduced to the council Jan. 24, 2005.

Explaining that he has a son enrolled as a freshman, Farrell invited students to “stop me and discuss your perspectives whenever possible.”  To further understand his background President Farrell attached a link to his Curriculum Vitae, (http://www.marshall.edu/president/pdf/gw51d1.pdf*).
