WEEKEND FIRST: Weekly Movie Comings And Goings

Huntington, WV (HNN) – Let me clarify the REEL WEEK report on WV super-extra Jeremy Ambler’s participation in the now showing re-make of “The Crazies.” You must have your eyes firmly attached to the screen or you might miss him.
As we stated, his character plays an army soldier wearing a gas mask. His character guards quarantine tents as main cast members Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell walk into the tent. When they come out “you can see me in an up close shot motioning people to come on,” Ambler wrote. “They even gave me a voice over. My soldier says, ‘go ahead this way please’ as they walk past before being stopped by Army soldiers in hazmat uniforms.”
But, this is the week for Tim Burton and his vision of “Alice in Wonderland.” Burton’s following and the imaginative 3D cinematic fantasy have merited it with a midnight advance screening (i.e. Thursday March 4 at 2 minutes past 11:59 p.m.). When’s the last time a Disney flick received a school night late night unveiling?
MAINSTREAM: Alice in Wonderland (3D), Brooklyn’s Finest
LIMITED CONTINUING: Up in the Air (Cinema Huntington), Single Man (Marquee Pullman); Crazy Heart (Marquee Pullman);
NEW EXCLUSIVES: Bad Lieutenant (Cinema Huntington)
FLASHBACK MONDAY: March 8, Breakfast at Tiffany’s ; March 15, Lost Boys; March 22, Good Bad & Ugly; March 29, Breakfast club; April 4-5, Gone With the Wind; April 12, Godfather; April 19, Citizen Kane; April 26, The Shining.
SPECIAL EVENTS: NONE.
ADVANCE MIDNIGHT SCREENINGS: Alice in Wonderland 3D, 12:01 a.m. (Thursday midnight, technically Friday morning) at most Marquee and Cinemark theatres.
HEADS UP, ENDS SOON WARNINGS*: Tooth Fairy, When in Rome, Dear John , Werewolf, will be bidding farewell to the big screen. As for “Blind Side,” the best pic nomination along with Bullock’s nomination for Best Actress means that pic will be at a theatre somewhere until after the awards ceremony. (*Predicted by HNN Editor)
BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ…. Just how many adults will Burton’s “Alice” attract? Will this 3D offering now knock “Avatar” out of the Top 5?
MORE BUZZZZZZZZZ: Matt Damon arrives March 12 in “Green Zone,” which has the intertwining expertise of Paul (“Bourne Identity” et. al.) at the director’s helm…. Romance dominates including “Our Family Wedding,” which might be described as the first Tyler Perry clone. Twilight’s Robert (Edward Cullen) Pattinson headlines “Remember Me” in which both members of the new couple have tragic reasons for living life to the fullest. Understand that fans by the thousands kept the NYC set manned only by filmmakers (the female observers likely outnumbered the crew)…, so that translates into opening anticipation, except for so much romance on March 12. The final entry, “She’s Out of My League” rumored with dim hopes due to formula story……
Starting March 5 – March 11
