Weekend First at HNN: Weekly Movie Comings and Goings

Huntington, WV (HNN) -- New Mainstreamers….The trailers for “John Tucker Must Die” have been clever. One high school jock has three girl friends in different cliques; when they find out, they hire a fourth to win, then break his heart. Hopefully, Jesse Metcalfe , Brittany Snow, Sophia Bush, Ashanti , and Arielle Kiebbel will bring the proper blend of hilarious hijinks and sexy temptation as the trailer suggests the concept has a long laugh quotient as a serial cheater gets what he deserves.
However, the big screen debut of Michael (“Heat,” “The Insider”) Mann’s “Miami Vice” featuring detectives played by Collin Farrell and Jamie Foxx probably has received more name recognition. A dark action film about two deeply undercover detectives tracking drug lords has generated mixed buzz related to a confusing plot, pretentious length, and uneven acting. Still, Mann was one of the TV show’s executive producers (1984-1989), so here’s hoping that the man who put his cool cops in pastels, sleek Ferraris and loafers sans socks has the right moxie to update the series beyond the 80s.
“Monster House” now has to compete head on with “The Ant Bully,” which
means the audience will fragment a bit. In the film, a young ant colony
destroyer finds himself shrunken to insect size and sentenced to hard labor
by the ants who survived his water gun drowning of their ant hill.
