Update on Hmong Refugee Crisis in S.E. Asia From Rebecca
Sommer
Dear Editor: Please see newest information on the Hmong Lao --
Yesterday night, Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006 at 11 p.m. Boua Xang from Milwaukee,
WI, received a call from a part of the group which was going to surrender.
Five families had the courage to show up at the village.
No arrest, no soldiers received them, all silent. They did report that
while walking down the mountain, they heard severe non-stop shootings at the
"other side" of that mountain.
In other words, it was described that smaller guns fired non- stop, assumed
towards another group in hiding.
The 5 families did not report their actual numbers of persons; they informed
me that the rest of the group lost courage to come out, fearing for their
safety.
LHRC president Kue Xiong received a call from Blia Shoua Her on the morning
of Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006 and was informed that the rest of his group,
including himself, became more and more afraid, and decided not to come out
[of hiding] as of yet.
