LETTER TO THE EDITOR
N.J. Reader Takes Issue with Star Parker Column 'Katrina, Lies & Videotape'
Dear Editor: Star Parker is 100% incorrect with her statement I have written
previously of the love of affair of the black left, particularly the Rev.
Jesse Jackson, with Third World dictators. There is virtually no freedom of
the press and speech in Venezuela. If [filmmaker Spike] Lee were a citizen
of Venezuela and made a similar film attacking Chavez, he would disappear
forever after the first showing.
Star should do some more research or check her source. First of all, like
him or not, Chavez isn’t a dictator: he was democratically elected by the
people of Venezuela in a legitimate election. More importantly, the entire
Venezuelan media is run by Chavez’ opposition party. He is criticized all
the time on Venezuelan television and print media. I have no idea why Star
would make such a statement, other than she has gotten Chavez confused with
Fidel Castro.
