LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Dominoes, Menaces and History Lessons
Dear Editor: This public relations push is so reminiscent of our tragic role
in the Vietnam War. In that era we were fighting communism and if we didn't
stop their onslaught in Vietnam the entire Southeast would fall to the "Red
Menace" and, eventually, threaten us here at home. Remember? It was the
Domino Theory.
We now have new dominoes. As the Bush Administration has stated, If we lose
in Iraq we will lose the war on terror and if we lose the war on terror we
will be fighting the Islamofascist terrorists in the streets of America.
The "Red Menace" has now become the "Muslim Menace",
but it is still the old fear-mongering Domino Theory.
Rumsfeld has just said that we have not learned the lessons of history.
This is quite true as it applies to George Bush and his administration.
If only the American public would realize the fear-mongering tactics of this
administration are only a repetition of those used in the Vietnam
debacle which led to so much devastation to the United States in both blood
and treasure.
This is the history lesson Mr. Rumsfeld and his gang should be studying.
