LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Chicagoan in Travel Industry Lauds HNN Editor’s Note
Dear Editor: Thanks for the “Editors Note” at the end of this article [a
Scripps Howard story on vacation destinations for residents of Las Vegas on
all three HNN sites].
Ms. Ruiz had plenty of [nerve] to mention any hesitation (much less what she
actually said!!), on record, of anyone visiting Chicago for vacations and/or
pleasure. As both someone who has worked in the travel industry, in and for
Chicago AND AS a native Chicagoan, I am seriously offended by her comments!
Chicago, as a convention town, may long for the business that Vegas gained
from our losses…[but] as a place of and for leisure, Chicago has Vegas
topped in 8 of 10 categories. We don’t have the gambling but everything else
is top notch in Chicago—and many of the luxuries Las Vegas has were thought
of by and in Chicago, so they should be thanking us!!
I am now quite a supporter of Huntington News Network now that I see that
you took the matters into your own hands here and politely corrected Ms.
Ruiz on where she really is wrong and made a point to mention that Chicago
has much to offer. Many people tire of Vegas in 3-4 days, but if you spend
that time in Chicago, you’re “barely scratching the surface,” as they say.
Kudos to you and your organization. I look for future interesting articles.
