UPDATED BREAKING: Qatar Diplomat Attempts Shoe Terrorism on Flight from Washington, D.C.

Washington, DC (HNN) – Various news agencies -- including Denver media outlets -- have reported that a man allegedly attempted to light up his shoes on a flight that came from Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
As of 11 p.m. April 7, ABC has said “an explosive team is on the way to the airport.”
Although there is no confirmation of explosives, official report stated a belief that “it was an attempted shoe bomb.” However, as the story continues unfolding NBC reported that an “air marshal smell smoke” about a half hour prior to landing. The man came from a bathroom, where he was apparently attempting to set his shoes afire.
Investigators have now inspected the man’s shoes and have told NBC no explosives have been found.

KUSA-TV, Denver, learned from cell phone calls by passengers that the flight crew requested that the FBI and TSA meet with the crew. United Flight 663 landed at 7:21 p.m., Wednesday, April 7 Denver time. The man was subdued by federal air marshals on the plane according to Denver International Airport’s, flydenver.com.Passengers are undergoing interviews by the FBI.
ABC News, MSNBC, and KDVR (Fox, Denver) have reported that the man has been taken into custody.
The suspect was identified by authorities as a diplomat in the Qatar embassy in Washington, Mohammed al Modadi, 27. The FBI said the man had full diplomat immunity as the 3rd secretary and vice-consul.
