Come Home. Love, Dad
Dear Dad. I just bought a motorcycle!

By Shelly Reuben

Latest in the series from Come Home. Love, Dad, published by Bernard Street Books: A Letter from my father.

Dear Shelly ~

It was good to talk to you last nite and learn about your mail and general responses. It would be wise if you made copies in duplicate of the various correspondence that you undertake and that you write to different people and publications. It is further evident that the field of economics and business operation is in some one or more aspects tied to the subject of journalism. By writing your thoughts, criticism, developing ideas consistently and general reflections, you may be able to have the substance for a small book or series of pamphlets. Keep some kind of a file for your correspondence and general work.

Be careful as you ride around on the motorcycle ~ Don’t take any chances.

Mom and Dad on my motorcycle at college.

Now a few words about the freedom from toil and labor we have compared to our ancestors. They had to plough the soil ~ sow the seed ~ reap and bind the sheaves ~ thresh, and grind and sift the wheat and flour ~ knead and bake the dough and then at last ate the bread.

Whereas ~ we get up in the morning and find all these things done for us ~ But truly Shelly ~ I think that you must personally do all this preparatory work yourself.

I am enclosing an installment of the “Story of Irgun” by Menachim Begin; it deals with the story of Revolt ~

Try to arrange to stop over here on the way to the eastern coast because mother and I insist that you buy a new coat.

Well, we look forward to seeing you soon.

Love

Dad
