DEVOTION: Empty

By Beth Bondurant

In our affluent lifestyle, trying to find an empty space isn't easy.

We are continually trying to squeeze more into less and find ourselves frustrated with too much in terms of schedule... possessions and accountability.

How long do we let our car sit on "empty"... or our refrigerator be less than filled up.

How much time do we give in between communication and gatherings or planning for work related events and opportunities.

Sitting on empty isn't our usual preference. We prefer to be "ready to roll" in a steady manner of involvement and activity... in consumption and abundance.

We fill up our bodies with food which is preferably healthy and nutritious... remembering the importance of exercise and extension for keeping fit and well.

We fill up our minds with information and stimulation for wholesome ability and motivated performance.

We fill up our hearts with the desire for relationships and the beauty of life's potential.

We fill up our spirit with hope and healing... with love and forgiveness... with peace and purity... with goodness and faithfulness.

Our soul dies if we stay on empty... just as each part of our being requires rejuvenation and restoration.

Feast on God's presence and power to reconcile body, heart, mind and spirit... to fill us up with goodness and grace... to satisfy our empty longing.
