GUEST COMMENTARY: Kim Wolfe in His Own Words
By Kim Wolfe
Republican Candidate for Congress, WV 3rd District
Huntington, WV (HNN) -- Twice daily I visit my 86-year-old mother, who still
lives in the same hillside farmhouse where I was nurtured through lean
times, and from which I walked to a little Methodist church for Sunday
School and Boy Scouts, to the barn for morning and evening chores, and
learned about honesty, hard work, patriotism, and service; developing the
same moral fiber my father learned from my grandfather, and hopefully, my
children have learned from me and are teaching my grandchildren…Just like
you…
How have I come from there, to being votes away from representing West
Virginia in the United States Congress? What could possibly propel me into
a campaign against a multi-millionaire career politician, when I’m perfectly
content to come home every evening and pass ball with my nine-year- old son?
We’ve traveled approximately 10,000 miles of West Virginia back roads in the
past year in our 1965 “Mayberry” cruiser. Many of you’ve seen us as we
stopped for a pop and to find out what’s on your mind, and the same values
that we hold sacred are the same values that you have: family, friends,
faith, country…
I have eight children, and eight grandchildren, so far! Like you, I want
them to be able to stay close to home and have a safe and prosperous West
Virginia and America, and to be proud to be called West Virginians. With
terrorism and violence in our backyard, I’m compelled, with the support and
sacrifice of my family, to seek to represent us all in Washington, as OUR
congressman, not for any self-gratification, but to truly represent the
values we hold dear.
We must not take lightly the sacred privilege of casting a vote, and we must
vote not for a particular party or special interest, but for what’s right.
It’s been a privilege to serve our country and community throughout my life
thus far, and as far as this new attempt goes, win or lose, we would do it
again, because we know we’ve done the right thing in giving you a real
choice. We hope you’ve studied the issues, and that when you step into the
voting booth you will sincerely ponder who you think best represents you and
your values.
I want to thank the volunteers who have given so much to help us run a race
with not one paid staff member and very little budget, a daunting task.
They’ve done it because they love this state and this country as much as I
do, and know it’s the right thing.
I don’t have all the answers. But I do have a certain amount of expertise
which has prepared me well for this next avenue of service. Beyond the
fundamental commitment to serve with integrity, to the best of my ability,
for us ALL, my only “campaign promise” might be not to put my name on
anything! We’re all in this together.
Will it take a miracle? It will take your vote. Thank you.
