Rutheford on Film: Inconvenient Truth, Threats to the earth besides terror…..

Huntington, WV (HNN) --Al Gore’s global warning documentary asks, do we have to choose between our economy and the environment. It convincingly resounds “we should prepare for other threats besides terrorism.”

“An Inconvenient Truth” fares favorably as it lays the ‘evidence’ on the screen simply and systematically . Although mostly situated during a multi media lecture by Gore, the profound revelations and music video paced editing ensure that anyone with an open mind walks away with worrisome questions implanted in their head, no matter what your political party.

Glibly noting that he “used to be the next President of the United States,” Gore’s warming warnings illustrates that as the residue from burning of fossil fuels becomes trapped in our fragile atmosphere, radiation and heat literally rebound back onto Mother Earth. The melting glaciers at and around the North and South Poles visually mount the strongest platform for preventing further deterioration.

Distancing himself from a political agenda, the former vice president describes instructive awareness of the warming problem as an issue that arose from asking “how should I spend my time on Earth?”

Intriguingly scientists and representatives from a variety of cross sections have either praised or panned “Inconvenient Truth’s” scientific authenticity. The film conjectures that political types have held the issue at “arm’s length” because moral implications and universal climate changes have results so dire they pierce the flip flopping , self serving, spins associated with individual political agendas.

But the film’s imagery of ‘nature going crazy’ hastens to invoke end time thoughts as prophesied in the Book of Revolution. Particularly jolting are the relevant connections underscored by warm water increasing the severity of hurricanes with Katrina standing as an indisputable ‘wild card’ supporting the theories. In fact, weather statements that this summer has been the hottest on record serve to strengthen the documentary’s thesis.

My rhetorical criticism of the flick must inquire --- Would the scientific data be more readily accepted by viewers without Mr. Gore as the narrator? That’s an endlessly revolving hypothesis since all politicians have ‘do a little side step’ credibility, yet an unknown scientist narrating would not command an audience ‘draw’ similar to the advantage of ‘A’ list stars or directors.
